On This Day: Paolo Di Canio's last-gasp penalty floors Fulham

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...

Paolo Di Canio's last-minute penalty floored Fulham and earned West Ham United a Premier League win on this day in 2002.

The Hammers had dominated for long periods at Loftus Road, with Jermain Defoe seeing a goal disallowed for offside, Di Canio missing the target when well-placed and both Trevor Sinclair and Joe Cole being denied by Edwin van der Sar before half-time.

In the second half, Fulham came back into the game, but Steve Marlet curled narrowly wide and Barry Hayles saw a goal ruled out for offside.

The game looked to be ending goalless, only for Zat Knight to foul Defoe and referee Rob Styles to award a late penalty, which Di Canio converted to give the Irons a third consecutive away Premier League victory.
