Details confirmed for Papa John's Trophy second round'tie

West Ham United Under-21s

The date and time of West Ham United Under-21s' trip to Peterborough United in the second round of the Papa John's Trophy has been confirmed.

The young Hammers will travel to Weston Homes Stadium to take on the League One high-flyers on Tuesday 8 December. The match will kick-off at 6pm.

Managed by Darren Ferguson, Peterborough have made a strong start to the 2020/21 campaign and currently second in the third tier of English professional football, making them the highest-ranked side left in the Southern section of the competition.

Following 3-1 and 1-0 wins at League Two teams Southend United and Colchester United respectively, the U21s sealed first place in Group A with a memorable 1-0 win at Fratton Park against last season's finalists Portsmouth earlier this month.

The upcoming tie with the Posh marks the first time the young Hammers will compete in the knockout stages since 2017/18, and only the second time since academies were invited to participate in 2016/17.

The Hammers will therefore travel to Peterborough with little to fear and all to play for, as they bid to reach the competition’s third round for the first time in their history.

The Papa John’s Trophy final will be played at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 14 March 2021.
