Tomáš Souček: It’ll be a different challenge for us

Tomáš Souček is already itching to get back out on the pitch and help his West Ham United team start another unbeaten run.

The Hammers saw their four-game sequence without defeat come to an end at Liverpool at the weekend, but Souček felt they deserved more against the Reds after producing a display of defensive grit and togetherness.

It took the Premier League champions until the 85th minute to find their winning goal through Diogo Jota as the Hammers limited their hosts’ chances.

Now, having taken on six of last season’s top eight finishers in succession, David Moyes' men will next prepare to face two of this campaign’s slower starters, Fulham and Sheffield United.

For Souček, he believes the next set of fixtures will provide a different kind of challenge, but one that the Hammers are ready to tackle head on.

“We felt we were very unfortunate on Saturday,” he reflected. “We were winning 1-0, and still had the game at 1-1 with five minutes to go.

“I wanted more points, but when we lost the first two games and we looked to our schedule we knew it was difficult. But from Arsenal, we got better and better, and now we’ll work hard towards the next game and we want to win against Fulham.

“It will be a different challenge from the last four games for us now.

“We’ve been playing teams from the top six recently and now we want to keep more of the ball and create more chances.”

The Hammers have given themselves a good base for that with their defensive work so far this campaign and the Czech Republic midfielder was again impressed with their solidity at Anfield.

“We wanted to stay very close to each other on the pitch and our shape is improving,” he added.

“We were happy that we didn’t allow Liverpool to create many chances, but still they won the game and that’s hard on us.”
