Hammers representative Spencer to face Spurs in ePremier League Invitational

Spencer Owen

Founder of Hashtag United and YouTube personality Spencer Owen will represent West Ham United in the second ePremier League Invitational tournament – with a first-round tie against Tottenham Hotspur’s Ryan Sessegnon in the offing.

The virtual London derby - which opens the tournament - will take place at 3pm on Tuesday afternoon, with the Irons one of eight top-flight teams facing a first-round tie in the EA SPORTS FIFA 20 competition.

Should he progress past Spurs' Sessegnon, Owen would then face Norwich’s Max Aarons in the second round on Thursday afternoon.

Announced on Monday morning by Sky Sports and the Premier League, the draw paired each Premier League club’s representative – including the likes of Leicester’s James Maddison with Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson – in a straight knock-out competition.

A lifelong Hammer, Owen rose to prominence on YouTube under the moniker ‘Spencer FC’, documenting his football gaming in tandem with the foundation of Hashtag United – a new club who won their league title in their very first season.

Spencer will therefore be hoping to repeat the feat as he enters the second ePremier League Invitational tournament, after Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Diogo Jota won the first title with a golden goal win over Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold a fortnight ago.

Matches will be streamed live four times per day from 3pm on Tuesday, ahead of the semi-final and final from 5pm on Saturday 9 May.

Fans will be able to watch all of West Ham’s games live on whufc.com and the West Ham United eSports Twitch account.
