West Ham United and London Stadium have paid tribute to the courageous work being carried out by NHS staff during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

On Thursday evening, London Stadium and hundreds of other landmarks across the country displayed the NHS logo or were lit up in blue in a nationwide show of solidarity with the NHS and its frontline staff as part of the ‘Clap for our Carers’ campaign.

Joint-Chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold and manager David Moyes backed the campaign and spoke in recognition of the staff who are giving their all to save lives.

You are the true heroes of our nation and we salute you

Mr Sullivan and Mr Gold said: “The whole country has been humbled by the bravery, expertise and commitment shown by our NHS workers. They are prepared to put their own safety at risk to help the British public.

“We know many of them are regular visitors to the London Stadium and we want to say, on behalf of the West Ham family, we are proud of you and we thank you wholeheartedly for all you are doing for us and, in particular, those facing a battle with this terrible virus.

“The thoughts of everyone at West Ham United are with you all as you work tirelessly to support those affected. You are the true heroes of our nation and we salute you.”

Manager Moyes added: “I know I speak on behalf of everyone at West Ham United when I say a sincere and heartfelt ‘Thank you’ to each and every NHS worker at this uniquely challenging and difficult time.

“Your commitment to working to save the lives of others is truly phenomenal and we are all truly grateful for everything you are doing.

“It is only right that we show our appreciation for our brave and selfless NHS staff in this way, with our London Stadium and other landmarks across our country glowing blue in recognition of their work.”

West Ham United this week proudly launched Hammers At Home – a new online community initiative offering support, assistance and regular interaction with the Club’s fans during this uniquely challenging and unprecedented time.

Following the Government’s guidance around the COVID-19 pandemic and Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s direct appeal to the nation to Stay Home, Protect the NHS and Save Lives, the Club assures all supporters that the lines of communication to your Club remain open and that we are here by your side through the difficult days, weeks and months ahead.
