On This Day: Matty Etherington nets treble in Wimbledon rout

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with Basset & Gold...

Matty Etherington continued his dream debut season in Claret and Blue by netting an outstanding hat-trick in a 5-0 Division One win over Wimbledon on this day in 2004

Winger Etherington tapped in Marlon Harewood's cross on 37 minutes before Bobby Zamora's long-range shot made it two. The Hammers went further ahead through Etherington just after the break before former Don Nigel Reo-Coker finished off a fine move for the fourth.

Etherington, who would be named Hammer of the Year at the end of the 2004/05 campaign, chipped in on 70 minutes to complete a fine night's work at the Boleyn Ground and lift Alan Pardew's West Ham United up to third in the table.
