Backstory: Aaron Cresswell

It would have been easy for Aaron Cresswell to give up on his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

As a schoolboy, Cresswell was released by his boyhood club, Liverpool, and his hopes of making it to the top of the game looked to be over.

But showing typical determination, the young defender impressed on trial at Tranmere Rovers, before working his way up through the Football League with Ipswich Town.

After three seasons in Suffolk, where he won Player of the Year honours, Cresswell moved to east London in 2014.

In six years at West Ham, Cresswell has been voted Hammer of the Year, made more than 200 first-team appearances, won two England caps and become one of the most popular players in recent Claret and Blue history.

This is his Backstory.
