West Ham United and Heineken UK reward #HammersHeroes

Over the past months, millions of NHS and key workers have made huge sacrifices to keep the country safe and operational during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

It was immense pride, therefore, that West Ham United and Club partner Heineken UK were able to say a small thank you to just a handful of these #HammersHeroes –– with the assistance of some very special guests.

First-team players Ryan Fredericks, Sebastien Haller, David Martin, Angelo Ogbonna and Darren Randolph all put in Zoom calls during the lockdown period to check in on just a few of these key workers – and offer them some spectacular Heineken UK VIP experiences as a token of our gratitude.

The #HammersHeroes on the receiving end included workers at Barts Charity and King George & Queen’s Hospitals Charity, as part of the Club’s pledge to help local NHS Trusts.

After the heroes got over their initial surprise at hearing from the first-team players they tune in to watch every week, a huge range of exciting prizes were offered out for next season – once, in due course, it is safe and permitted to actuate them.

These invitations included the chance to attend a VIP day at a home fixture in 2020/21, a ‘Play on the Pitch’ event at London Stadium, and the opportunity to attend team training next season in safe and proper course.

In a world where social distancing is encouraged, all your #HammersHeroes stories and photographs have been evidence that our communities, in times of crisis, remain truly united.
