On This Day: Ten-man West Ham thrash Blackpool

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with Basset & Gold..

West Ham United overcame a red card shown to goalkeeper Robert Green to thrash Blackpool 4-1 at a wet and windy Bloomfield Road on this day in 2012

Sam Allardyce's side continued their quest for promotion from the Championship with a fantastic display on the Lancashire coast.

James Tomkins and Nicky Maynard put the Hammers 2-0 up before veteran striker Kevin Phillips pulled one back for the Tangerines.

Green was then sent-off for bringing down Roman Bednar outside his penalty area eight minutes after half-time. With no substitute goalkeeper on the bench, midfielder Henri Lansbury replaced Julien Faubert and took the gloves.

Despite being down to ten men and with Lansbury between the sticks, the Irons added two further goals through Gary O'Neil and Ricardo Vaz Te late on.
