On This Day: Parker's half-time team talk inspires West Brom comeback

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with Basset & Gold..

Cometh the hour, cometh the man: on this day nine years ago, Carlton Cole hailed his "inspirational" captain Scott Parker for a half-time team talk which saw West Ham United recover a three-goal deficit to claim an unlikely Premier League point at the Hawthorns.

In a commanding position thanks to goals from Graham Dorrans, Jerome Thomas and a Winston Reid own goal, West Brom were good value for their 3-0 lead at the interval.

But, in a turn of events Cole attributed to Parker's rousing changing-room speech, Demba Ba would pull a goal back on his full West Ham debut shortly after the restart, before the Hammers' No9 grabbed another eight minutes later.

The two teams traded chances before Ba enjoyed the final word, volleying past Boaz Myhill with seven minutes to go to pay Parker's powerful words a rich reward.

"Scott was in the zone - I've never seen him like that," Cole told BBC Sport following the game. "If you were there you would have had a tear in your eye."
