Five West Ham United loanees were in action for their respective clubs in the EFL at the weekend, with important wins for Josh Cullen and Aji Alese and a senior debut for Dan Kemp.

Jordan Hugill started and played the full 90 minutes for Queens Park Rangers in the Championship, where the west London club were beaten 1-0 at home by Bristol City. Mark Warburton’s side are 16th in the table, 12 points outside the Play-Off places, but nine above the relegation zone.

Below them, Charlton Athletic improved their chances of staying up with a vital 2-1 home win over Barnsley at The Valley, where Josh Cullen played the whole game in midfield for Lee Bowyer’s side. The Addicks are 19th, four points above Wigan Athletic in the relegation zone and nine clear of bottom two Barnsley and Luton Town.

At the other end of the table, Slaven Bilic’s West Bromwich Albion defeated Luton 2-0 at The Hawthorns, but Grady Diangana missed the game through injury.

In League One, Nathan Holland started on the left wing for Oxford United in a 2-1 home win over Blackpool. The 21-year-old lined up alongside former West Ham Academy teammate Marcus Browne, who scored both goals for Karl Robinson’s side in a victory that sees them in eighth position, three points outside the Play-Off places.

Nathan Trott was an unused substitute for AFC Wimbledon in the same division, as the Wombles were beaten 2-1 at Accrington Stanley to remain 20th in the table, six points and one place above Tranmere Rovers in the third relegation spot.

Defender Aji Alese was introduced as a substitute for Accrington with 13 minutes remaining, helping the Lancashire club score a win that sees them sit 17th in the standings.

In the same division, Conor Coventry was also an unused substitute for Lincoln City, who were beaten 2-1 at Sol Campbell’s Southend United.

In League Two, Dan Kemp made his senior debut for Stevenage as a 60th-minute substitute in a 3-0 defeat at home to Leyton Orient – a result which left the Boro bottom of the table and six points adrift of safety.

In Spain, Roberto is still awaiting his Alaves debut after being an unused substitute in the club’s 1-1 La Liga draw at Sevilla.
