On This Day: David Cross chips West Ham United into League Cup semi-finals

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...

A David Cross chip was the difference between West Ham United and London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a feisty League Cup quarter-final played on this day in 1980.

An incisive pass from the midfield saw Trevor Brooking played through on-goal but the striker was beaten to the ball by Barry Daines in the Spurs goal. The 'keeper, however, could only parry into the path of Cross, who picked his head up and found the inside of the far post with his delightful chip.

West Ham United ended up being beaten finalists in the League Cup that year, with Liverpool needing a replay to overcome a fine Irons side.
