On This Day: Bobby Zamora's rocket shoots down Everton to fuel Great Escape

Bobby Zamora's outstanding long-range rocket shot down Everton to add new fuel to West Ham United's Great Escape on this day in 2007.

Just 13 minutes had passed when the striker collected a lay-off from Yossi Benayoun before smashing a rising left-foot shot into the top left-hand corner of Tim Howard's net.

West Ham had lost their previous two matches to Sheffield United and Chelsea to drop deeper into relegation trouble, but this victory gave Alan Curbishley's side new hope.

Zamora and Benayoun also went close to doubling the hosts' lead, while Mikel Arteta missed Everton's best chance.

The Hammers went on to win their next three matches to climb out of the bottom three and finish 15th, while David Moyes' Everton ended the season in sixth position.
