On This Day: Rush and Morley stall Tractor Boys

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with Basset & Gold...

West Ham United's debut Premier League season got back on track with an eye-catching 2-1 win over Ipswich Town at the Boleyn Ground on this day in 1994.

Matthew Rush was recalled by manager Billy Bonds and marked the occasion on 17 minutes with a sensational long-range strike that flew into the top left-hand corner of Clive Baker's net.

Trevor Morley made it 2-0 on 75 minutes when he ghosted in front of his marker to glance Matty Holmes' right-wing free-kick into the bottom corner.

Ipswich pulled one back with three minutes to play when former Hammer Stuart Slater dispossessed Peter Butler and crossed for Paul Mason to head past Ludek Miklosko, but Bonds' side would not be denied their first league win since New Year's Day.

West Ham would finish the 1993/94 season in 13th place.
