West Ham United Academy trio receive England call-ups

Aji Alese

West Ham United starlet Ajibola Alese has been named in the England U19 squad for the upcoming International Marbella Cup.

Meanwhile, Jamal Baptiste and Amadou Diallo are in the England U17 squad for a trio of international friendly matches, which will also be played in Spain.

Highly-rated central defender Alese celebrated being called up at U19 level for the first time by making his debut and playing the full 90 minutes in the 3-1 win against Greece last month.

Alese, who also recently made his Football League debut as part of a loan spell at Accrington Stanley, will now hope to make a further impression at that international level in the forthcoming friendly competition.

Paul Simpson’s England U19 side will first take on France U19s at the Marbella Football Centre on Wednesday 9 October, with kick-off at 4pm UK time. They will then face Belgium at the same venue a few days later, the match commencing at 3pm on Saturday 12 October.

A ball-playing central defender, 18-year-old Alese’s has previously captained England’s U16 side, having made 14 appearances across U16, U17 and U18 level. His promise on the international stage culminated in him playing a key role in helping his nation into the last four of the 2018 UEFA European U17 Championship finals on home soil.

At club level, Alese signed his first professional contract with West Ham last July, and was a regular in the U23 team prior to joining Accrington Stanley to gain further experience in September.

Fellow Academy stars Baptiste and Diallo will be part of England's U17 squad for friendly internationals with Germany and Spain at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia.

Kevin Betsy's side will take on Germany twice, at 4pm on Thursday 10 and Saturday 12 October, and Spain once, on Monday 14 October at 11am.

Just 15, centre-back Baptiste has featured once in Premier League 2 level and three times in the U18 Premier League, while 16-year-old forward Diallo has played twice for the U18s.

Both have been called-up previously by England at U16 level.
