International round-up: Wins for two Academy youngsters

Sebastian Nebyla in action for Slovakia

The international week began on Wednesday with victory for two of West Ham United's Academy youngsters.

Sebastian Nebyla and Ajibola Alese both made the perfect starts to their UEFA U19 European Championship Qualifying Round campaigns, helping Slovakia and England register victories respectively.

Midfielder Nebyla took his fine Hammers form - he has six goals in seven U18 Premier League appearances this term - to the international stage, opening the goalscoring as Slovakia saw off Cyprus 2-1 in their Group 6 opener.

Slovakia will take on Cyprus, Malta and hosts Italy over the next week as they bid to progress to the Elite Round, and Nebyla's goal on his debut cap at this level gave them a step in the right direction.

Centre-back Alese, meanwhile, started for England U19s in their Qualification Round Group 11 match against Luxembourg in North Macedonia, playing his part as the Young Lions kept a clean sheet and won 4-0.

England face the group hosts and Bosnia & Herzegovina in their remaining fixtures on Saturday and Tuesday.

The top two teams in each group qualify for the Elite Round, along with the best third-placed side, with the finals taking place next summer in Northern Ireland.
