Antonio: I’m buzzing to be training again

Michail Antonio

Michail Antonio cannot wait to contribute in a Claret & Blue shirt again.

The West Ham United forward has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury in the Carabao Cup game at Newport County in August.

Now, after two-and-a-half months on the sidelines, Antonio is back on the training pitches and expects to be ready for selection when the Hammers return from the international break with a mouthwatering home London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

With such an exciting game to aim for, Antonio is relishing the prospect of stepping back out onto the London Stadium pitch.

"I’m buzzing to be back out there training and hopefully I can get back in and help the boys move up the league,” he explained.

“It has been very frustrating, especially as I was getting my form as I got injured, so hopefully I can pick up where I left off.

“Injuries are part of the game, they’re going to happen - it’s just how you deal with them and how you come back.”

Before Antonio returns to the fold, the Hammers face a trip to Burnley this Saturday and the No30 believes it is a matter of fine margins going his team’s way to turn their form around.

He explained: “In the Crystal Palace game we had lots of opportunities and their keeper pulled off some unbelievable saves. Sheffield United was similar - they had a couple of opportunities, but we had more and if they had hit the back of the net we’d have six points.

“That’s the difference, the ball’s not been hitting the back of the net. Right now, we just have to make sure we’re being ruthless and keep the ball out of our half.”
