Jane Ross started as Scotland concluded their preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Jamaica on Tuesday night.

Scotland are set for their first ever appearance at a World Cup finals and they defeated fellow finalists Jamaica in a see-saw encounter.

The match was played in front of a record crowd for Scotland’s women of 18,555 at Hampden Park, but Jamaica threatened to spoil the party when Khadija Shaw opened the scoring 15 minutes in.

Scotland responded strongly, though, levelling on the half-hour through Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert, then moving on front five minutes later thanks to Caroline Weir.

Ross, who was earning her 126th cap, was withdrawn at the break with their World Cup opener against England a little over a week away.

Jamaica soon levelled as Shaw netted her second of the game, but Scotland dominated in terms of both possession and attempts and were rewarded midway through the second period with Sophie Howard’s winner.

Scotland will take on England, Argentina and Japan in their World Cup group, with the action getting underway against the Three Lions in Nice on Sunday 9 June.
