On This Day: Hammers sign off 2008/09 with Boro win

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with Basset & Gold....

West Ham United signed off for the 2008/09 campaign with a 2-1 victory against Middlesbrough on this day a decade ago.

The Hammers, under Gianfranco Zola's management, ended the season in ninth place thanks to goals from Carlton Cole and Junior Stanislas, ensuring future West Ham midfielder Gary O'Neil's strike counted for nothing.

While the home side were able to celebrate a good season, Middlesbrough were left to contemplate relegation to the Championship after an eleven-year stay in the top flight.
