Chicharito hailed West Ham United’s character after his two goals helped the Hammers secure a dramatic come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Huddersfield Town.
The Irons looked to be dead and buried when Karlan Grant put the Premier League’s bottom side 3-1 up with 25 minutes to go, but two headers from the Mexican either side of Angelo Ogbonna’s goal snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
After marking his 50th Premier League appearance for the Club with his 14th and 15th goals, the 30-year-old was understandably happy.
“Our comeback was pretty good with the effort of the whole team and even the players who started tried to do their best,” he began. “In the second half we found ourselves behind and tried to overcome that and we did it.”
While he has now scored 20 Premier League goals after coming on as a substitute, Chicharito hopes his two-goal show will see him return to the starting eleven after the international break.
“I want to be on the pitch as much as I can to be honest,” he confirmed. “If I need to help my teammates as a substitute, I’ll try to do my best, but I want to start and to play as many minutes as I can.
“Hopefully I can keep proving that by scoring goals, with assists and good performances and we can try and get in the top seven.”

After losing 2-0 at struggling Cardiff City in their previous fixture, the Hammers looked to be on course for another disappointing result when Huddersfield took a two-goal lead midway through the second half.
Chicharito admitted West Ham’s overall performance had not been up to scratch, but pointed out that the Terriers were not simply going to turn up and roll over.
“When you are down on the scoresheet I think the performance means you are not good enough,” he observed. “We didn’t play so well against Cardiff but we did a pretty good job in the second half and, like I said, even the players who started did their best.
“The Premier League is the most competitive league in the world and because of that every game, home or away, is going to be difficult.”
West Ham’s win extended their unbeaten run at London Stadium to seven matches in all competitions in 2019 and closed the gap to two points on seventh-place Wolverhampton Wanderers. With seven games to play, the No17 is hoping he can contribute to a late charge for European qualification.
He concluded: “I try to do my best to be in my best shape and give my best performances for this Club and, like I said, hopefully we can finish in the top seven.”
