Wilshere: We need to set the tone with a strong start

Jack Wilshere knows the importance of making a strong start as West Ham United aim to climb higher in the Premier League table this term.

The 27-year-old midfielder is ready to hit the ground running as the Hammers tackle four Premier League games in the opening month of the campaign.

Following a stern test against champions Manchester City on the opening day, the Hammers then face Brighton & Hove Albion, Watford and Norwich City before the first International break of the campaign.

And for Wilshere, putting points on the board early will be crucial for the Hammers to fulfil their aims in 2019/20.

"We need to make sure we start right," he explained. "Last year obviously we started badly - we lost the first four games and then we’re playing catch-up.

"We need to prepare for the opening four games before the international break and see where we are after that.

"We want to push as high as we can - we beat Arsenal last year, we beat United, we drew with Chelsea so we know we can get results against them. It’s against the smaller teams that we need to focus more and pick up points."
