Issa Diop: Switzerland is the perfect environment to start pre-season

Issa Diop believes the Hammers are in the perfect environment to kick-off their preparations for the new season.

The Frenchman is with his teammates for an eleven-day training camp in the Swiss town of Bad Ragaz, where Manuel Pellegrini is putting the team through up to three training sessions a day.

For Diop, the hard work is exactly what he wants as he hones his game ahead of the 2019/20 campaign - and the camp could not be in a better place.

Bad Ragaz provides a tranquil setting for the Hammers' exertions, while the fact they have returned there for a second straight season means Diop, and the majority of the squad, know exactly what to expect.

Training has been good, we’ve had good sessions and on Thursday we started the real pre-season with three sessions a day

"This is the perfect place to start pre-season," he stated, "The hotel is very good and the pitches are very good too. We have all the conditions for doing a good pre-season.

"We came here last year as well, so we know everything about the place.

"Training has been good, we’ve had good sessions and on Thursday we started the real pre-season with three sessions a day.

"Of course, three sessions a day is hard, but pre-season is always hard. We know that and we are ready for it."

As well as banking his experience of the Hammers' pre-season training camps, Diop will also go into the new campaign having learned plenty from his first year in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old impressed greatly with a series of commanding performances and he modestly said he his aim is just to continue acquiring knowledge to ensure that improvement continues.

He added: "I know a little bit more about the Premier League and the guys now, so I’m more confident, but I also know I always need to improve to know the league,

"I learned a little bit, but I think I need to learn more and I’m ready for this."
