Hendrix: Little details let us down versus Man Utd

Brooke Hendrix believes a lack of attention to detail let West Ham United down in Wednesday’s defeat to Manchester United in the Continental Tyres Cup.

Two goals for Jess Sigsworth was enough to put the Irons out of the competition in the quarter finals.

Hendrix admits the performance from her and her teammates simply was not good enough and feels the result is hard to accept.

At the end of the day, it felt like they wanted it more than we did. It was the little things that we need to pick up on and improve on.

“It wasn’t the result we wanted by any stretch. It was a hard game, and a tough result to take,” she told whufc.com.

“At the end of the day, it felt like they wanted it more than we did. It was the little things that we need to pick up on and improve on.

“We needed to give more effort and show more desire. They’re a Championship side that were always going to want to try and take us down, as the WSL side, and it’s disappointing to lose in this way.”

West Ham were not without their chances in the midweek fixture, with Kate Longhurst and Ria Percival both hitting the woodwork while Jane Ross had a close-range effort well saved.

“It’s frustrating to not score,” Hendrix continued. “We get these chances and they’re so, so close, but they just don’t go in. Sometimes, that’s the way it goes, and we can’t blame that.”

With the first goal coming from a crossed ball into the box, Hendrix knows the side needs to improve in this area before Sunday’s home match with Manchester City.

She added: The first goal seemed to happen so quickly and almost come out of nowhere. We’ve been working on defending crosses but it didn’t happen tonight. We need to work harder and improve on these things.”
