Antonio: We started slowly but finished strongly!

Michail Antonio was pleased to put the seal on West Ham’s 3-1 win against Fulham on Friday evening at London Stadium.

The winger, whose powerful injury-time header made the result certain, believes the final scoreline was a fair refection of the game.

"We kept pushing and we kept going at 2-1,” said Antonio. “It was nice to top it off in the end and make it 3-1.

They were playing decent football, finding holes in our midfield and they were creating things, so getting the third goal was important.”

Antonio was perplexed by the Hammers’ sluggish start, as Fulham took the lead after just three minutes.

"I cannot explain how we started the game - it was terrible. I don't think we could string two passes together in the first few minutes. As soon as they scored we picked ourselves up and it was a kick in the bum basically.”

The win saw West Ham rise to ninth in the table and Antonio has set his sights on finishing higher up the league.

"We have to be professional and we keep going for the fans and keep winning games for the fans. It's not about being safe - it's about how high we can finish.”

Antonio also welcomed the long-anticipated return of Manuel Lanzini, who made his first appearance of the season in the second half.

"They call Manu the jewel and that’s exactly what he is - he is a special player and hopefully he can come back and keep pushing us up the table.”
