Danny Ings celebrates scoring for Southampton

Southampton

Nickname: The Saints
Manager: Ralph Hasenhuttl
League position: 18th
Leading goalscorer: Danny Ings (11 goals)
Last five games: LWWDL

Southampton head into Saturday's game in the bottom three, but within striking distance of the clubs ahead of them.

That's a scenario they would have taken on 25 October, when a 9-0 home defeat to Leicester City had them wondering what this season would hold.

Since then, they've beaten fellow strugglers Watford and Norwich City, as well as taking a point from Arsenal to ensure they would not be cut adrift.

Danny Ings has hit form in that time too, scoring in each of his last five games to take his tally for the season to an already-impressive eleven.

Team news

Jack Wilshere

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that a number of first-team players are on their way back to full fitness, but that Jack Wilshere is currently contending with a groin injury.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference as his side prepare to take on Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday evening, the Chilean confirmed that goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini – sidelined with hip and shoulder injuries respectively – are continuing on the road to recovery,

Long-serving defender Winston Reid, meanwhile, has been working with the first-team squad after garnering match minutes with the U23s and his international side, New Zealand, over the last two months.

Elsewhere, Issa Diop and Sebastien Haller will hope to earn recalls to the starting XI, while Aaron Cresswell has been training in full after coming off with a knock in Monday's home defeat by Arsenal and should be available to face the Saints.

Last time out

The Hammers completed a Premier League double against the Saints last season by defeating them 3-0 in their final London Stadium game of the campaign in May.

Marko Arnautovic scored twice before Ryan Fredericks rounded off the scoring with his debut West Ham goal.

That followed a 2-1 festive come-from-behind victory at St Mary's, secured thanks to a Felipe Anderson double.
