Loan watch: Wins for Cullen and Browne, debuts for Haksabanovic and Samuelsen

Marcus Browne was also on winning side for his loan club at the weekend, providing an assist for Jerome Sinclair’s goal as Oxford United continued their rise up EFL League One with a 2-1 home win over Wycombe Wanderers.

Oxford are now up to 12th in the ultra-congested League One table, seven points clear of the bottom four, having spent much of the season in the relegation zone.

Josh Cullen helped Charlton Athletic remain on course for the League One Play-Offs with a 1-0 win over another of his former loan clubs, Bradford City.

Managed by former West Ham midfielder Lee Bowyer, Charlton are fifth in the table, nine points adrift of Barnsley in the second automatic promotion place but also 12 points clear of Peterborough United in seventh.

In the Championship, Jordan Hugill played for the final three minutes as Middlesbrough were beaten 1-0 by leaders Norwich City at the Riverside Stadium. Former Hammers Darren Randolph, Ashley Fletcher and substitute Stewart Downing also appeared for Boro.

In League Two, Moses Makasi was replaced 25 minutes into Stevenage’s 3-0 home defeat by Notts County.

Wearing the No99 shirt, Sead Haksabanovic made his Allsvenskan debut for IFK Norrkoping at Helsingborgs IF on Sunday, starting and playing the opening 63 minutes as his team fell to a 3-1 defeat in their opening league game of the 2019 season. Elsewhere in the same division, former Hammer Ravel Morrison played for 73 minutes for Ostersund in a goalless draw with reigning champions AIK.

In Norway, Martin Samuelsen made his Eliteserien debut for hometown club Haugesund, appearing for the final 14 minutes of a 3-2 opening-day defeat at Stromsgodset in Drammen.

In Spain’s Segunda Division, Toni Martinez was introduced as a substitute for the final 17 minutes of Lugo’s goalless draw at Alcorcon – a result which leaves Lugo 18th in the table, just one place and three points above the relegation zone.

In Italy, Edimilson Fernandes missed Fiorentina’s 1-1 draw with former West Ham loanee Simone Zaza’s Torino in Serie A.
Reece Oxford was not involved in Augsburg’s 3-0 defeat at Nuremburg in Germany’s Bundesliga, 

The same was the case for Vashon Neufville, who was absent from Newport County’s 3-1 win at Yeovil Town in League Two.
Oladapo Afolayan was not involved as Oldham Athletic beat Grimsby Town 2-0, while Joe Powell was an unused substitute as Northampton Town were beaten 2-1 at home by Port Vale in the same division.
