Arnautovic: It was a great performance and result

Marko Arnautovic was thrilled to match a good performance with the result as West Ham United defeated Everton 3-1 on Sunday.

The Hammers have twice gone in front this season only to end on the losing side – against Bournemouth and Arsenal – so this time Arnautovic said the most important thing was getting the three points to go along with the display.

Helped by two Andriy Yarmolenko strikes before the break, West Ham did just that as Arnautovic quashed home hopes of a comeback with his goal for 3-1 after Gylfi Sigurdsson halved the deficit before the break.

Arnautovic’s third goal of the season ensured the Hammers would end their wait for a first win of the campaign and set the seal on an excellent showing personally after he also set up Yarmolenko’s first.

“It was important for us to come back today and put in a performance, because we didn’t win any of the first four games,” he explained.

“I think we played well in one or two of those games, but we didn’t get the benefit out of the game. Today we played well and took the three points so we are very happy.

“It wasn’t just the forwards today, It starts from the goalkeeper and I think everybody did an unbelievable job. The midfield were everywhere and then it’s down to us [as forwards] to score the goals to win games.”

Arnautovic was also happy for Yarmolenko to score his first goals in Claret and Blue, especially as he was able to lay on the opener.

He added: “Congratulations to Andriy for his first two goals and I hope he will go on to score more now!

“For the first goal he was screaming for about ten minutes I think! He kept screaming and I saw him running and that he was alone and in a better position than me because it was on my left.

“I’m happy for his goal and happy for the team for his performance, so I hope it will be a good week for us."
