Balbuena: Hammers are confident heading to Newcastle

Fabian Balbuena is confident that West Ham United can take all three points from this weekend’s test against Newcastle.

The Irons travel to the North-West this Saturday to take on Newcastle United and are hoping to get back to winning ways after the defeat at London Stadium to Manchester City last weekend.

The defender knows that he and his teammates will have to remain concentrated throughout the game to deal with the threat Newcastle United possess, but says the side has the belief to come away from St James’ Park with the win.

The Paraguay international said: “Of course, we have three games coming up which are important, but first we go to Newcastle trying to get the three points and we have to do that.

We’ve trained this week with confidence. We need to stay strong and all the guys need to put in a good performance on Saturday

“We’ve trained this week with confidence. We need to stay strong and all the guys need to put in a good performance on Saturday.”

Balbuena knows the importance of getting back to winning ways against a Newcastle team that have won their last three league matches.

The 27-year-old felt there were good signs from the Hammers, despite the loss to league leaders City in the last match, and wants to see these applied to Saturday’s match.

Balbuena continued: “There were many factors in the defeat to Manchester City. They have very good players and they were more effective than us. However, we had our chance to win, but we weren’t effective, and I think that was the difference in that game.

“We need to think now about Newcastle, and need to try to get the points that we are losing at home. We have a good team; good players and we have the confidence to win.

“You can see Newcastle are more of a force and they are more dynamic. We need to stay concentrated for 90 minutes.”

Balbuena recognises that no match in the Premier League is an easy contest and knows West Ham will need to be at their best to take the win.

“All the teams that are playing in the Premier League, I have heard of,” Balbuena added. “In this competition, all the games are the same difficulty.

“We need to be prepared and we need to be concentrated so we can do the best to try and win.”
