World Cup 2018: Chicharito delighted with record goal

Mexico's 2-1 victory over South Korea on Saturday was a special result for Chicharito.

The Hammers’ striker scored his 50th goal for the Mexican national Team, and also his fourth goal in World Cups, becoming the top scorer of El Tri in the tournament, tied with Luis Hernandez.

The finish was a fine example of the qualities Chicharito possesses. In a quick counterattack, the forward received a pass from Hirving Lozano in the area, nutmegged a Korean defender and finished in a small gap as the goalkeeper was rushing towards him.

The goal ended up being the difference between the two teams, and at the end of the game, Chicharito was understandably delighted with the goal, the win and the record.

"It means a lot," Chicharito said.  "I want to say a big thank you to the people who have always been there, who have always trusted me. To the “Professor” (Mexico coach, Juan Carlos Osorio) and all my teammates, to this beautiful family".

The victory, however, does not mean that Mexico are confirmed in the second round of the World Cup tournament. El Tri will still have to avoid losing to Sweden in their final game if they want to progress into the knock-out stages of Russia 2018.

"We have to turn the page and think about Sweden. That's what this profession is like, we knew that it was going to be a very complicated World Cup and that’s what’s happening so far

"We have the goal of going as far as possible but we must go step by step. The best thing is that we won against Korea, that we are winning and that Mexico is climbing those steps, but there are still a lot of them to go."
