Netherlands international Tessel Middag joins West Ham Ladies

Tessel Middag

West Ham United Ladies are delighted to confirm the signing of Netherlands international midfielder Tessel Middag.

Middag joins the Irons from Manchester City, having spent two years with the north-west side, and becomes head coach Matt Beard’s latest acquisition at the Hammers.

General manager Karen Ray is thrilled to add a player of Middag’s quality and ability to the side.

“Signing someone of Tessel’s calibre shows that we want to compete in this league,” Ray told whufc.com. “The experience she brings from her time at Manchester City will benefit the environment we are creating at West Ham.

“We are all excited to welcome Tessel to the club and look forward to supporting the next stage of her career. A true professional and a fantastic addition to the family.”

Middag and Ray

Born in Amsterdam, Middag spent her youth career with AVV Swift before signing for ADO Den Haag in 2011. The midfielder netted ten goals in 18 matches in her debut campaign, helping the side to win the Eredivisie and the KNVB Women’s Cup.

Middag’s solitary season with ADO Den Haag earned her a transfer to Ajax in 2012. The midfielder played 94 times for the Eredivisie side, scoring 15 times, and helping the club to lift the KNVB Women’s Cup in 2014.

The 25-year-old was brought to England by Manchester City in 2016 and instantly made an impact, being named the Player of the Match on her debut against Liverpool. Middag’s first start would also see her net her first goal, in a fixture versus Aston Villa.

Middag made her international debut for the Netherlands in 2012, featuring against France, and has gone on to make 44 appearances for her nation, scoring four goals.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Tessel and her family to the Club and wish her a successful career with the Hammers.
