Cresswell: The 90 minutes were important for me

Aaron Cresswell was thrilled to get his first 90 minutes of the season under his belt in a winning effort at AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday.

The Hammers had to come from behind to progress to the third round of the Carabao Cup, with goals from Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna and Chicharito turning the game around following Joe Pigott’s early opener.

Cresswell, having picked up a minor injury in pre-season, has had to be patient for game time so far this year, so was delighted to get back into the swing of things at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

“It was a good night’s work and good for me to get 90 minutes under my belt,” the No3 said. “It was my first 90 minutes since Everton on the last day of last season.

“They started very well and got the goal after a minute, but I felt in control after that and of course them having the man sent off meant it was pretty much all us after then.

“I can kick on now and build on my fitness. Getting through into the next round was the main objective and we did that.

“It’s a long season, and there are plenty of games to go. Hopefully we can win on Saturday and look forward.”
