West Ham United came from a goal down before ultimately being denied Betway Cup glory by a late Werder Bremen winner in the German town of Lohne on Saturday.

The Hammers went into the second-leg tie trailing 1-0 from the first leg on Friday evening, and fell even further behind when Italian defender Luca Cadirola rose highest to send an unstoppable header past debutant Joe Hart.

Marko Arnautovic levelled before Toni Martinez headed West Ham in front on the night and set up the possibility of a penalty shootout, only for Werder's Chinese striker Yuning Zhang to settle matters with nine minutes of the 90 remaining.
