In Pictures: Chicharito's first training session

Chicharito enjoyed a warm welcome as he took part in his first West Ham United training session in Germany on Friday.

The Hammers prepared for their opening Betway Cup clash with Werder Bremen at the Sportanlage In der Ahe, home of local club Rotenburger SV.

The Mexico striker will not feature against the Bundesliga side, but he was still involved as Slaven Bilic put his squad through their paces, being given a round of applause by his new teammates and wearing a broad smile for much of the session.

The 29-year-old warmed-up with the squad and took part in some ball work before breaking off with fellow FIFA Confederations Cup participant Jose Fonte, Diafra Sakho and Winston Reid to do specific fitness, strength and conditioning work.

“It was very good from day one,” he said. “I said ‘Hi’ to all my teammates, with the trainers, the coaching staff and all the people who work in this Club and it was a very good and warm welcome!”

Chicharito will work on his fitness over the weekend and hopes to be involved in next week’s pre-season matches with Altona 93 in Hamburg and Manchester City in Reykjavik, Iceland. West Ham kick-off the Premier League season at the Mexican’s former club Manchester United on Sunday 13 August.
