Team news: Collins returns in place of suspended Reid at Stoke

West Ham United manager David Moyes has kept faith with the players who have served him so well this week at Stoke City.

The Scot makes just one enforced change to his starting XI from Wednesday’s goalless London Stadium draw with Arsenal, drafting James Collins in for the suspended Winston Reid.

The Welshman makes his first Premier League appearance, and start, since suffering a hamstring injury in the goalless draw at West Bromwich Albion on 16 September.

While Reid’s absence is a blow for a team which has looked solid in its previous three matches – a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City and 1-0 win over Chelsea preceded the midweek stalemate with the Gunners – Collins’ return is absolutely no need for concern.

The 34-year-old helped the Hammers to keep clean sheets in each of his final two appearances before injury, as he also played the full 90 minutes of the 2-0 home win over Huddersfield Town in September.

It again looks like a 5-3-2 or a variation on that formation-wise.

Adrian will make his third straight start in goal, having impressed since replacing the then-ineligible Joe Hart at Manchester City a fortnight ago.

Collins will likely play on the right of a back three, with Angelo Obonna in the centre and Aaron Cresswell continuing in his new role as a left centre-half.

The wing-back positions should again be filled by Pablo Zabaleta and Arthur Masuaku, with captain Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang playing slightly deeper than Manuel Lanzini in central midfield.

In attack, Marko Arnautovic returns to the club he represented 145 times over four seasons, scoring 26 goals and assisting 32 more.

The Austrian will support Michail Antonio, who looks set to continue as centre forward.

Andy Carroll misses the game with a back problem, meaning youngsters Moses Makasi and Sead Haksabanovic are included on the substitutes’ bench alongside Hart, Declan Rice, Andre Ayew, Chicharito and Diafra Sakho.

Sam Byram, Jose Fonte, Cheikhou Kouyate, Edimilson Fernandes and Nathan Holland remain sidelined.

For Stoke, Mark Hughes has drafted in Kevin Wimmer for the injured Kurt Zouma in defence, his only change from the midweek 1-0 defeat at Burnley.
