Hammers star Dimitri Payet added to his sensational recent France record on Friday by adding an eighth international goal to his collection with Les Bleus’ winner against Sweden.
In FIFA World Cup qualifying, Payet found the net from close range with 25 minutes remaining to down his side’s Scandinavian opponents and stay top of European Group A.
France had previously fallen behind in the 54th minute when Emil Forsberg opened the scoring from a free-kick, however Paul Pogba nodded home to level the score at the Stade de France from Payet’s delivery.
And the 29-year-old, who has already scored two terrific goals for the Hammers this season in domestic football, marked his 31st cap with a crucial winning strike.
Didier Deschamps’ team had already beaten Bulgaria and the Netherlands in qualifying in addition to a goalless draw with Belarus.
They face the Ivory Coast on Tuesday in an international friendly and Payet will be looking to continue his superb form into next week.
Elsewhere, Aaron Cresswell was left on the bench in England’s 3-0 win over Scotland at Wembley.
The full-back received his first international call-up earlier this week and he watched on as a substitute as the Three Lions secured the three points thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill.
Finally, Havard Nordtveit was also an unused substitute as Norway were beaten 2-1 by the Czech Republic in Prague.
