- Alfie Lewis came into the midfield as West Ham United PL2 beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 in the Premier League Cup
- Jahmal Hector-Ingram and Marcus Browne scored the goals for the Hammers
- Lewis hopes he can now cement his place in the PL2 side
Alfie Lewis believes West Ham United PL2 fully deserved their 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest on Friday night.
The Hammers came through a difficult evening in the end and managed to clinch the three points thanks to Marcus Browne’s precise finish four minutes from time.
The result means they have won both their Premier League Cup fixtures this season and Lewis does not see a reason why the Hammers cannot go all the way once again.
“It was a deserved win. Our second half performance was much better than the first. We definitely stepped it up and showed what we are about so it was a positive night,” he said.
“We’ve got the quality in our squad and we showed that tonight so there’s no reason why we can’t go all the way again.”
Lewis has made a handful of PL2 appearances this season but has had to bide his time for his chance in recent weeks.
Instead, he has played a starring role in the centre of midfield for the U18s as they currently sit top of the U18 Premier League South.
With Moses Makasi suspended for the evening after his red card against Middlesbrough, Lewis partnered Domingos Quina in the midfield and showed composure throughout the victory over Forest.
“It was good to be back playing for the PL2 side. It’s a great experience and it’s better football too,” added Lewis.
“I just want to get as many game for the U23s and play lots for the U18s as well.”
