Mears ready for Hammers reunion

The Hammers will be coming up against a familiar face when they play Seattle Sounders as part of their 2016 summer tour to America on Tuesday 5 July.

Tyrone Mears played at the Boleyn Ground back in 2006/07 and will always remember his brief spell in east London.

The 33-year-old has now made a successful switch to the United States and is enjoying his football at the Sounders who are the best-supported and most-valuable franchise team in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Mears is looking forward to welcoming Premier League opposition to Seattle and knows it will be a memorable occasion when the two teams meet at CenturyLink Field.

Mears said: “West Ham are a great club. When I went there they had just got to the FA Cup Final under Alan Pardew.

“We had a good group of players. The one thing that stands out about West Ham is the fans support.

“I know they have been talking about the move to the new Stadium and I think it is great for the club.

“There is a lot of history at the old ground, but moving forward it is massive for the club and they can easily join the top four teams in the Premier League now.”

West Ham will also face North American Soccer League (NASL) team Carolina RailHawks on Tuesday 12 July as part of their Stateside tour.
