West Ham ended their 52-year wait for an Anfield win in August
West Ham ended their 52-year wait for an Anfield win in August when they were 3-0 winners over Liverpool.

In the historic afternoon for the Hammers, goals from Manuel Lanzini, Mark Noble and Diafra Sakho ended the barren run on Merseyside, while even a red card for skipper Noble which was later overturned could not half the Hammers' delight.

The already boisterous away support reached near delirium after just three minutes when Argentine Lanzini latched onto Aaron Cresswell's cross to turn past Simon Mignolet.

Darren Randolph was on hand to keep the Hammers in front, denying the Reds on a number of occasions before the Hammers looked dangerous on the counter attack.

And the second goal for the visitors did come just shy of the half hour mark as Lanzini robbed a back-pedalling Dejan Lovren. Bursting into the box, he teed up Sakho and when his attempt was foiled, Noble was on hand to calmly fire into the bottom corner.

The Hammers' never-say-die attitude was serving them well and although Noble was controversially sent off with ten minutes remaining, the Claret and Blues added a third late on when Sakho netted, slotting coolly past Mignolet.

It was a day to remember and comes in at No5 in our Top Matches of the Season.
