Hammers return to training

  • New signings Sofiane Feghouli & Havard Nordtveit met up with their new team-mates
  • All the players had cardio and blood screening
  • The players jet out to America on Saturday morning

The West Ham United players returned for the start of pre-season training on Friday and are eagerly awaiting the start of a historical season for the east London Club.

Club captain Mark Noble was the first to arrive and was soon followed by new signings Sofiane Feghouli and Havard Nordtveit who relished the opportunity to meet up with their new team-mates.

The rest of the first-team squad including Andy Carroll, Aaron Cresswell, Adrian and Manuel Lanzini were put through their paces as they underwent cardio and blood screening before having their first training session of the new pre-season.

West Ham physio Dominic Rogan was pleased to see the players report back for action on the first day and says it is crucial that they undergo screening ahead of the pre-season campaign.

Rogan said: “Essentially these tests are fit for duty. These players are extremely valuable assets for the Club and we owe them a duty of care for their own health and well being.

“It is a mandatory screen and we put them through fairly rigorous tests just to check that everything is okay.

“The players will be going their early gears in training on the first day as we have a plane to catch first thing on Saturday for the USA tour.

“The doctors will have to deal with the jet lag as there is an eight hour time difference, but training wise that will be down to the coaches.

“There is a lot of excitement around the place at the moment considering what we did last season and it is good to be back ahead of our big move into the new Stadium. There is a great atmosphere among the players.”
