Joint-Chairman - Antonio good enough for England call-up

West Ham United Joint-Chairman David Gold has nothing but praise for Michail Antonio and believes he can challenge for a place in the England squad this season.

Antonio stole all the headlines when he netted a late winner against Bournemouth in the first ever Premier League game to be played at London Stadium on Sunday.

The talented winger was moved further forward by Slaven Bilic and the decision paid off as he produced an impressive display and made it a day to remember with his late headed goal.

Antonio clearly enjoys the big game occasion having scored the winning goal against Tottenham last season and also scored in the final ever game at the Boleyn Ground against Manchester United.

Mr Gold sees no reason why Antonio should not be pushing for a place in Sam Allardyce's squad and feels he has the quality to compete on the international stage.

“I was full of emotions following the win over Bournemouth and what a way for us to win the game in the final five minutes with a fantastic goal." Mr Gold said.

“It was a great cross from Gokhan and what a header from Michail. I am so pleased for the player who enjoyed being back on the wing and he was there when we needed him.

“He loves the big occasion and is a big player. We talk all the time about Andy Carroll and our wonderful captain Mark Noble over their chances of getting in the England team.

“I am a great supporter of that, but I also feel Michail should be given consideration because he is a special player and worthy of an England opportunity.

“It was a very important victory because we will remember this win in 10 years time – the first Premier League game to be played at London Stadium and it was an historic moment.”
