Classic match

Liverpool 1-2 West Ham United
Division One
14 September 1963

This date in the calendar marks the 52nd anniversary of West Ham United's victory away at Liverpool.

That victory came courtesy of first half goals from Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst as the Hammers moved into a commanding lead.

Liverpool came fighting back in the second period, and Ronnie Moran had a chance to halve the deficit on the hour but saw his penalty saved by Jim Standen in the West Ham goal.

Roger Hunt did pull one back with 65 minutes played, but West Ham held on to take the points - and little did they know it would be so long before that winning feeling would be experienced at Anfield again.
