Name: Pat Holland
Born: Poplar, 13 September 1950
Clubs: West Ham United, AFC Bournemouth (loan)

West Ham United FA Cup winner Pat Holland is today celebrating his 65th birthday.

Holland was a member of the Hammers team which won the 1975 FA Cup, then reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup the following year.

The Poplar-born winger scored in that game as West Ham went down to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Belgian outfit Anderlecht.

Other than a brief loan spell with Bournemouth at the start of his career, Holland played his football exclusively with the Hammers, appearing 296 times for the Club throughout the 1970s and early 1980s.

A knee injury sustained in 1981 ended his first team playing career, and he moved into coaching, holding roles at Queens Park Rangers, Leyton Orient and Tottenham Hotspur, before returning to Brisbane Road to manage the O's in 1995.

His spell was not a success, as Orient finished his only full season in the lower reaches of Division Three and he was sacked in the autumn of 1996. He subsequently went on to coach at Millwall, Milton Keynes Dons and Arsenal.

Classic match

Queens Park Rangers 2-3 West Ham United
Division One
13 September 1986

The Hammers were looking to maintain the momentum from the famous Boys of '86 year when they travelled to Queens Park Rangers for their sixth game of the new campaign.

A mixed start saw them travel across London in 12th, but they ended the day sixth in the Division One table after a thrilling victory over the R's.

Tony Cottee notched all three of the visitors' goals, and his hat-trick proved decisive as Rangers replied with two goals of their own.

It was not enough for them, as the Hammers were able to celebrate a three-point haul which kick-started a profitable autumn,

John Lyall's men were fourth in the table as late as November, but could not maintain their form and ended the campaign down in 15th place.
