West Ham United 4-2 Sheffield Wednesday
First Division
16 October 1965

West Ham United scored four for the second time in three days, as they saw off Sheffield Wednesday at the Boleyn Ground on this day 49 years ago.

A League Cup triumph earlier in the week had seen the Hammers run out 4-0 winners against Mansfield and they continued their goalscoring form against the Owls.

Two goals from Martin Britt and one each for Martin Peters and John Sissons secured an impressive home win for the Hammers.

The team went onto finish twelfth in the league, just weeks before Peters, Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst would win the World Cup at Wembley by the same score line.
