Hammers 'Cult Hero' John Moncur recalls his favourite Boleyn Ground goal for West Ham TV
West Ham United Cult Hero John Moncur was back at the Boleyn Ground on Sunday for the Barclays Premier League visit of West Bromwich Albion.

Moncur also dropped in at the Club’s Chadwell Heath Training Ground last Friday, when the midfielder recalls his strike in the incredible 5-4 win over Bradford in 2000 as his favourite all-time strike at the home of the Hammers.

Speaking to West Ham TV, Moncur looked backed fondly on his first-time left-foot pile-driver that flew into the top right-hand corner of the Bantams’ net.

“It was probably the Bradford game for me, as it was a decent goal for me personally and a mad game,” said the Stepney-born favourite, whose goal put the Hammers 2-1 up.

“It had everything, from Shaka Hislop breaking his leg early – bless him – to a young ‘keeper [Stephen Bywater] coming in and had a complete nightmare! He was our mate and we did laugh, because he was so confident, but that partday he played like he had oven gloves on!

“After I scored I couldn’t get my shirt back on and gave a penalty away, I had a row with Harry [Redknapp] at half-time and then you had Frank Lampard and Paolo Di Canio fighting over a penalty and Paolo went on strike in the second half!

“It was just the maddest game ever. Lampard scored, Joe Cole scored and all the young players were playing who had come through, so it was probably the most action-packed game I’ve ever played in.”
