Frederic Kanoute levelled on 41 minutes, before Stuart Pearce sent the Hammers into the break happy.
James Beattie levelled for the home side with 53 minutes on the clock, but West Ham came again and secured the points thanks to Trevor Sinclair 21 minutes from time.
