Chelsea 0-1 West Ham United
Premier League
13 March 1999

The Hammers were in the midst of their best campaign in the Premier League era and continued their surge towards the top five with this 1-0 success in West London.

Paul Kitson scored the only goal of the game, forcing home late on to dent the title ambitions of Gianluca Vialli's men.

West Ham showed good character to bounce back from the previous week's defeat to Southampton, with Rio Ferdinand blocking well from Gianfranco Zola and Celestine Babayaro.

But the Hammers were to largely frustrate their London rivals before Kitson struck following a Marc-Vivien Foe knockdown to secure all three points.

West Ham ended the campaign in fifth place with 57 points from 38 games, while Chelsea ended in third, four points off title-winning Manchester United.
