West Ham United U11s have been crowned National Premier League Futsal champions.
The Hammers won after pulling off three victories at the thrilling tournament, which was held in Leeds.
Having qualified from the regional round by getting past Arsenal, Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion, West Ham took part in the eight-team finals.
The east London side finished second after a round-robin stage which saw them face Everton, Chelsea, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United, Southampton, Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion.
The five-a-side competition saw West Ham’s nine-boy squad beat Blackburn 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 semi-final draw, with goalkeeper Jacob Knightsbridge saving the vital penalty. In a dramatic final, the Hammers beat Everton 3-2 to lift the trophy.
Phase coach Dave Johnson was delighted with the performance of his players and staff, saying: “The tournament being a national competition is the equivalent of the FA Youth Cup for the U18s so it’s a big achievement.
“It’s always good to test yourself against some of the best teams in the country, so to come away having won it is excellent. All the boys worked really hard and their hard work paid off, I’m over the moon.”
The full West Ham U11s squad comprised Jacob Knightsbridge, Jamal Baptiste, Divin Mubama, Omari Forson, Archie Woods, Ryan Lowe, Freddie Potts, Junior Robinson and Luke Deslandes.
The coaching staff comprised David Johnson, Del Robinson, Tony Falco and Cherrelle Dodson.
