West Ham have met West Brom five times previously in the FA Cup, winning through on four occasions, including a third-round replay in January 1980 on their way to lifting the trophy for a third time that May.

Prior to that, the first FA Cup meeting came in January 1913, when the Hammers prevailed after a two first-round replays. In January 1933, West Ham defeated the Baggies 2-0 in the third round on their way to the semi-finals.

In January 1953, West Brom scored their only FA Cup success over West Ham with a 4-1 victory at the Boleyn Ground. More recently, West Ham triumphed again in the third round in 1980 before scoring a 2-0 third-round victory at The Hawthorns in January 1993.
