A return to top level football in Europe was all the motivation West Ham United's new signing Nenê needed to put pen-to-paper on a deal until the end of the season.
The Brazilian forward, who was the top scorer in France in the 2011/12 season, has spent the last two years in Qatar, where he was equally prolific.
Having played for the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco and Celta de Vigo in Europe, he is delighted to be testing himself in the Premier League for the first time.
"I am very excited and happy to be here," he told West Ham TV. "I'm proud to come to a really big club like West Ham and I'm going to do my best to help the team.
"I've been thinking about coming back to Europe for a few months because here the football, the ambience, everything is better."
As well as scoring goals on a regular basis - he had 36 in 79 Ligue 1 appearances for Paris St Germain - he also likes to assist from both open play and dead-ball situations and is looking forward to bringing that ability to the Premier League.
"I don't like describing myself, but normally I like to get on the ball and show my technique," he added. I like taking free-kicks, so I practice to be good at that.
"I like making assists - that is my real work, to make the final pass to put the striker in a good position to score the goals."
With 13 Premier League games left this season, Nenê has one thing on his mind - helping the Hammers towards European qualification.
"The objective is to qualify for Europe," said the forward, who has played in both the UEFA and Asian Champions League competitions. "The Club wants to do that and I want to help them arrive in that position.
"We've done well this year and we have a good chance to fight in every game to arrive in Europe. In maybe ten days I think I will be able to play an entire game, but if the coach wants me to help sooner then I'll be there.
"The team will see how I feel in training but I hope I am able to be with the team as fast as possible."
