Manchester United 0-1 West Ham United
Premier League
8 December 2001

The Hammers gave their fans a pre-Christmas present on this day 14 years ago when they collected a memorable victory at Manchester United.

Jermain Defoe scored the only goal of the game, rising above Phil Neville to beat Fabian Barthez with a near post header with 64 minutes on the clock.

It was a second win in as many years for the Hammers at Old Trafford, following the previous season's triumph in the FA Cup.

The Hammers would go on to finish seventh that season, with Manchester United in third.
